During the presentation of the quarterly figures, Asus announced that the Zenfone 7 and ROG Phone III are still on the schedule. The phones are scheduled to launch by the end of the second or the beginning of the third quarter.
Just over a year ago , Asus released it’s Zenfone 6 on the market, with a reasonable price of 559.99 euros. Before that, you got the specifications of a high-end phone, such as the Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. A salient detail of the Zenfone 6 is the Flip Camera; normally the camera is stored on the back. The camera will only rotate forward when you take a selfie. An advantage of this is that the cameras on the back are better than the selfie cameras that you find on other phones. A successor to the Zenfone 6 is said to have been developed by Asus.
Asus’ successor to the Zenfone 6 should be launched before the summer
Qualcomm previously leaked a list of (upcoming) phones that would use the Snapdragon 865 chipset; this list included the Asus Zenfone 7 and ROG Phone III. At a quarterly earnings meeting, Asus is said to have pledged that the flagships are on the way, according to the Taiwan Commercial Times. Zenfone 7 and ROG Phone III are scheduled to launch before the end of the second quarter or the beginning of the third quarter said co-CEO Xu Xianyue. It is unknown whether the Asus Zenfone 7 will again offer much for the money, as was the case with the Zenfone 6.
ROG Phone III
Asus ‘successor to ROG Phone II, the Phone III, should grow between ’30 and 50 percent’ – this growth is required to make the phone division within the Republic Of Gamers profitable. To date, Asus had to invest more in the Research & Development (R&D) for the ROG Phone series than the sales generated. The division is expected to be profitable in 2021. Asus is in a difficult position with its ROG Phone III: the prices it asks are (too) high compared to the prices that are asked by other brands, such as Black Shark and Red Magic. After all, a ROG Phone II costs 899 euros.
The Asus ROG Phone II has never appeared on the market
In the Netherlands we do not have to welcome the Zenfone 7 and ROG Phone II at the launch. Philips went to court in 2019, where Asus was sued for patent infringement. The judge decided to prohibit Asus from selling his phones in the Netherlands unless certain licensing agreements were made with Philips. Asus decided not to do this, ending the sale of Asus phones in the Netherlands. In Belgium, Asus sells the Zenfone 6 and ROG Phone II through its official Asus Shop.
