The Asus Zenfone 8, a compact high-end smartphone, has been officially presented. In addition, the manufacturer takes the canvas of the Zenfone 8 Flip, with a rotating camera, so that you always shoot a sharp selfie.
Asus Zenfone 8 official: small speed monster
The Zenfone 8 is presented and a remarkably small high-end smartphone with a suggested retail price of 599 euros. The screen is ‘only’ 5.91 inches and has a resolution of 2400 by 1080 pixels. An AMOLED display was chosen for bright colors and high contrast. The maximum refresh rate is 120Hz, so everything appears smoothly on the screen and optimized games are a joy to play.
Asus markets various models in terms of working and storage memory. The entry-level version has 6GB / 128GB, but there will also be 8GB / 128GB and 8GB / 256GB versions. The absolute top model has 16GB and 256GB of internal storage onboard. Whether all those models will come to the Netherlands is still the question.
Under the hood is the Snapdragon 888 chip, which we see in many high-end smartphones such as the Oppo Find X3 Pro, OnePlus 9 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11. The battery is 4000 mAh, can be charged quickly with 30 Watt, but wireless charging is lacking. On the back, you will find two cameras of 64 and 12 megapixels respectively. In addition to photography, you also use the first to film in an 8K resolution. With the wide-angle lens, you can shoot photos at a wider angle or take close-ups of objects.
Finally, there is room for two SIM cards and the device is dust and waterproof. Expanding the memory is not included, but things like NFC, wifi 6 (e) and Bluetooth 5.2 are available. A physical headphone jack is also on board, as is a small notification LED.
Also Asus Zenfone 8 Flip presented
According to Asus, the Zenfone 8 is the absolute top model, but the Zenfone 8 Flip has the better specifications in many areas. For example, the screen is larger with 6.67 inches but refreshes it only 90 times per second. The battery is 5000 mAh and can also be charged with 30 watts. As with the Zenfone 8, the software is available to optimize the charging process so that the battery lasts longer.
On the back, you will find the same two cameras with its little brother, but there is also a zoom lens. This allows you to get objects up to three times closer via optical zoom without loss of quality. As with the Zenfone 7 series, the device has a flip camera, so all cameras can also be used for selfies. The motor has to last about 300,000 times, which equates to years of use.
The device has the Snapdragon 888 processor and comes in two models: 8GB / 128GB and 8GB / 256GB. Finally, the entry-level price of 799 euros is a lot higher than with the Zenfone 8.
Availability is unclear
Although Tech largest has had a briefing on both devices and has a review model of the Zenfone 8, the availability is unclear. For example, it is not exactly known whether both devices will be marketed here and in which variants they will then appear. These questions are off at Asus Netherlands. This article will be updated as soon as more information is available.
Asus is also involved in a dispute over patents with Philips, as a result of which a sales stop was announced about two years ago for devices on the Dutch market. However, various smartphones of the manufacturer are now for sale, via its own website or other points of sale.
