After iOS 14, watchOS 7 and iPadOS 14, it is now finally time for the Mac to be updated. macOS Big Sur is now available for download, so install the update.
Download macOS Big Sur, here’s how
We’ve had to wait longer than ever for it, but the annual Mac update is finally available. macOS 11 (Big Sur) succeeds macOS Catalina and is one of the biggest Mac updates in years.
The update introduces a new design for the Mac’s software, with new icons, menus and other graphical changes. You can read all about the improvements in our overview of the most important innovations in macOS Big Sur.
Here’s how to download and install macOS Big Sur:
- Open the System Preferences;
- Click on the ‘Software updates’ button;
- Wait until macOS Big Sur appears here and click on ‘Update’;
- Wait for the download to complete and follow the steps on the screen.
Since the update has only just appeared, it may take a while for it to show up on your Mac as well. If the above steps do not work, try again after about ten minutes.
Your Mac will reboot several times while installing Big Sur. So make sure you have saved all your files and closed programs. Want to know more about preparing your Mac for Big Sur? Check out our handy guide with four tips.
