Fossil has released a cheaper Gen 5 SE smartwatch. The SE uses previous generation hardware, but it is made with the same quality of materials.
Fossil Gen 5 SE
The Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch is now more than a year old and of course we expect something new from the watchmaker. The ‘new’ this time mainly resembles the old and the known. The Gen 5 SE is a new version of the Gen 5, but then according to the recipe of the SE series with the iPhones from Apple. Fossil does not use new hardware with its latest smartwatch and can therefore offer the watch for a more accessible price. The Gen 5 SE also has the same quality of materials as the previous editions.
The Gen 5 SE has a 44mm format and a 22mm swappable strap. Furthermore, Fossil uses a 1.19 inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 390 x 390 pixels. Under the case you will find the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, not the new Wear 4100, along with 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of storage. The watch still has room for a heart rate sensor, a microphone and speaker for phone calls and a Home button.
Furthermore, the Gen 5 SE comes with all software functions that the other watches can also count on. This means that the watch works with Wear OS and the apps from the Play Store, but also with the typical Fossil functions such as the Extended Battery Mode with which you no longer have to charge your watch daily.
The Fossil Gen 5 SE comes in three colors: Black Silicone, Brown Leather and Black Stainless Steel. The new watch has already been announced in the US for 249 dollars or 211 euros. Nothing is yet known about the availability in the Netherlands and Belgium.
