Honor 50 (Pro) official: new start with Google apps and Play Store

Honor is all the way back as the brand has presented its first phones since it was split from Huawei. The Honor 50 series consists of upper mid-range phones with 108 MP camera and 100 watt fast charging. Oh, and they come with the Google Play Store .

Honor 50 (Pro)

Late last year, Huawei announced that its subsidiary brand Honor is released so that it can continue as an independent brand. Under the wings of Huawei, Honor is suffering from the sanctions that rest on the parent company from the US. Honor has already launched its Honor Band 6 fitness tracker as an independent brand, but of course we were especially looking forward to new phones.

New start

That wait is coming to an end, as the Honor 50 series has been announced, and they’re back with the familiar Google apps and Play Store. Gsmarena knows this, among others. The series consists of an Honor 50, a more powerful Honor 50 Pro and then the cheaper Honor 50 SE.

The Pro version comes with a 6.72 inch AMOLED screen with curved edges, a Full HD resolution, and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The screen has a notch for two selfie cameras: a 32 MP selfie camera, complemented by a 12 MP wide-angle lens for group selfies. The regular Honor 50 has a smaller 6.57-inch screen with only a 32 MP camera. The specifications of the screen are otherwise the same.

100 watts fast charging

The Honor 50 and the Pro version are the first phone to come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G, which is a chipset for higher-end phones. The performance of this processor is more in line with this Snapdragon 780G . Furthermore, the phone will have 8 GB of RAM or 12 GB.

Then we come to the rear camera and it is the same for both the Honor 50 and the Pro version. The Chinese brand uses a 108 MP main camera with a relatively large 1/1.52 sensor. There is also an 8 MP wide-angle sensor, a 2 MP camera for macro photos and a 2 MP depth camera. The Pro version can charge its 4000 mAh battery with a remarkable 100 watt charger. For the regular Honor 50, that is a 66 watt charger and a 4300 mAh battery.

There is also an SE variant of the Honor 50 series and it comes with a 6.78-inch LCD screen without curved edges. The screen has a 120 Hz refresh rate and a single e16 MP selfie camera. The rear camera setup is the same on this phone, with the exception of the 2MP depth camera which is missing.

The main difference with the other devices is the MediaTek 900 processor that forms the basis for this phone. It has a 4000 mAh battery and can charge with a 66-watt charger. This phone also appears with Android 11 and the Google Play Store.

Prices and availability

The Honor 50 series is coming to Europe, a brand spokesperson announced to The Verge . Countries such as France and the United Kingdom are already mentioned, and a launch outside of China will follow later.

It remains to be seen whether the devices will also be officially available in the Netherlands and Belgium. Although there is a good chance that the telephones will at least be available from us via gray imports if they are already available in our neighboring countries. The three devices are available in China from 314 euros.
