Whether you want to celebrate the birthday of your smartphone, or simply want to check how old your iPhone is: in this tip we explain how to do this in a few steps.
How old is my iPhone? This way you can check it quickly
Unfortunately, Apple has not added a setting with which you can check the age of your iPhone, but with a smart trick you can find out exactly when your iPhone was originally delivered. This works as follows.
This is how you check the age of your iPhone:
- Open the settings app of your iPhone;
- Tap on ‘General’ and choose ‘Info’;
- In the next screen you will see the serial number of your iPhone;
- Now go to Apple’s website via this link ;
- Enter the serial number and confirm.
The next screen will show you which model your iPhone is, with three colored circles underneath: valid purchase date, technical support by phone, and repair and service coverage. The third is important for this tip.
This is because it states when the date of your warranty expires or has expired. Apple gives every iPhone a standard one-year manufacturer’s warranty from the day it is sold. By simply subtracting a year from the date on this page, you will know exactly what date your iPhone was originally sold.
Older than two years old? Then try this
The above step-by-step plan only works if you have an iPhone that is less than two years old. If you have an older device, you can give the Chipmunk website a try. This Dutch website looks a bit simple but works great. You can enter the serial number of your device and then you will see exactly when it was produced, including the year and week of the year. You can check the serial number via this link.
Useful information for buying or selling your device
If your iPhone is less than a year old, you will see the line ‘Limited Warranty’ in this settings screen. There you can immediately see the date on which your warranty expires. Subtract a year here and you will know exactly how old the device is. Checking how old your iPhone is can come in handy at various times. This is useful information if you want to buy or sell an iPhone.
