iPhone 12 only has limited support for 5G

The iPhone 12 announced by Apple on October 13 may have only limited support for 5G. Analysts fear that the devices will not be able to connect to 700MHz networks. That is also an important 5G frequency in the Netherlands.

iPhone 12 5G support limited

All models from the iPhone 12 series are presumably equipped with 5G. In The Telegraph, however, telecom experts warn that the iPhone 12 may not support the 700MHz band. That is currently one of the three 5G frequencies in the Netherlands. KPN, T-Mobile and VodafoneZiggo offer 5G via 700MHz.

The 700Mhz band is important to realize a nationwide 5G network. This frequency has a wide range and can therefore also bring 5G to sparsely populated areas. However, the speed of this network is relatively limited. So you may wonder how bad it is if the iPhone 12 does not support this frequency. Presumably, the practical difference between 4G and 5G over a 700MHz band is quite small.iPhone 12 5G support limite

5G will only become really interesting in the Netherlands in a few years. In 2022, providers will be able to bid on the 3.5 GHz frequency band. This band provides a quantum leap in speed and will show the true potential of 5G. We still have to wait and see whether the iPhone 12 does support this frequency.

The iPhone 12 is coming

Apple is expected to announce four new iPhones on October 13. The iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. In addition, to support for 5G, the smartphones probably have a new design that is halfway between the iPad Pro and the iPhone 4. For the first time, there may not be a charger and EarPods in the box.

We also think that all models will get an OLED screen this year. In addition, Apple will probably provide the Pro models with a LiDAR scanner. With such a depth sensor, your iPhone can estimate distances more accurately. That makes the smartphone suitable for augmented reality. The scanner could also provide better portrait photos.

During the iPhone 12 event, Apple may announce even more new products. For example, the company would come up with a HomePod mini, a smaller version of the HomePod. Apple seems Bluetooth tracker AirTag and new headphones AirPods Studio provisionally postpone.

This Tuesday at 7 p.m. Dutch times, the Apple event of 2020 will start. We are of course ready to tell you everything about the iPhone 12 and possibly other new Apple products. So keep an eye on this website.
