MacBook Pro 2021 gets HDMI port and SD card reader

Chances are a few important connections will return to the MacBook. According to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the two new MacBook Pro models from 2021 are equipped with an HDMI port and SD card reader.

In 2016, the MacBook suddenly became incredibly thin. But the slimmer housing left less room for connection ports. The traditional USB connection gave way to USB-C. And the ports for HDMI, ethernet and the SD card reader also disappeared.

The MacBook thus became much lighter and more compact, but it also caused fiddling with dongles. Apple’s choice was criticized. Many MacBook users preferred a thicker MacBook with more ports. Especially photographers and video makers.

This year, Apple seems to be listening to the wishes of this group. According to Kuo, the 2021 MacBook Pro will undergo some significant design and specification changes. For example, the MacBooks would be equipped with an SD card reader and HDMI port.

Kuo previously wrote that it is a new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. In addition to the SD slot and HDMI port, another important return: the MagSafe charging connector. This is a technique in which a magnet holds the charger in the right place. Furthermore, the MacBook Pro 2021 is said to have a somewhat flatter design and the Touch Bar will disappear.

Many of these predictions have also been made by another licensed Apple analyst: Mark Gurman. He was the first to report the return of the SD card reader. We now hear the rumor of the HDMI port for the first time.

How likely is?

Kuo and Gurman are both very knowledgeable when it comes to Apple. The predictions they make about future Apple products almost always come true. Certainly, the fact that they both predict the same thing, makes the chances of the aforementioned connections returning to the Mac this year.

It will probably be a while before the new MacBook Pro models are unveiled. Kuo predicts a release in the third quarter of 2021. This will probably be in October, the month in which Apple will announce new Macs more often.
