Motorola has just announced the Moto G9 Power and Moto G 5G. These are mid-range phones that focus, among other things, on the cameras and a long battery life.
Moto G9 Power with larger battery
The Moto G9 Power is the successor to the Moto G8 Power launched last year and this mid-range also emphasizes a long battery life because of the large 6,000 mAh battery. That battery has grown by 1,000 mAh compared to the G8 Power and, according to Motorola, could last for several days with average use. You charge the battery with 20 watts fast charging.
The G9 Power’s screen has grown from 6.4 inches to 6.8 inches. It is an IPS screen with an HD + resolution instead of full HD + for the G8 Power. There is a notch for the selfie camera in that screen and the bottom screen edge seems slightly thicker than that of the G8 Power.
The housing is also made water-resistant so that it is protected against spills, splashes, sweat or light rain. The fingerprint scanner can be found on the back and the Google Assistant button is on the side.
The Moto G9 Power also has three cameras on the back: a 64 MP main camera (f / 1.8), a 2 MP macro camera (f / 2.4) and a 2 MP depth camera (f / 2.4). You can take selfies with a 16 MP camera. Motorola has put a 64 MP main camera in a middle class for the first time. This camera is equipped with Quad-Pixel technology. This ensures that four pixels are used for one pixel so that up to four times more light can be received.
Motorola has therefore given the G9 Power one less camera than the G8 Power. The ultra-wide-angle camera and telephoto lens have also disappeared, and the macro lens can bring objects up to four times closer, instead of five times for the G8 Power.
The Moto G9 Power is powered by a Snapdragon 662 octa-core processor as opposed to the 665 variant in the predecessor. There is 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space. The latter can be expanded via a microSD card. The housing, like many other Moto devices, is made water-repellent so that it is protected against spills, splashes, sweat or light rain.
The Moto G9 Power runs on Moto’s My UX based on Android 10. The manufacturer has kept the software basic, just like standard Android, and does not add any unnecessary apps. The well-known Moto Experiences is present on the phone. This tool brings some tricks to the device. Think of taking a screenshot with three fingers and ‘Flip to Do Not Disturb’ (useful when binge-watching). You can also switch on the flashlight via shaking here. This is useful if you are looking for your bicycle lock in the evening. Customizing the device with fonts, wallpapers, icons and more is also possible.
Buy Moto G9 Power
The Moto G9 Power is available in the colors Metallic Sage and Electric Violet for a suggested retail price of 199.99 euros. This makes the phone cheaper than the G8 Power that came on the market for 229.99 euros.
Moto G 5G
The Moto G 5G is actually the predecessor of the Moto G 5G Plus launched earlier this year (349.99 euros). According to Motorola users, this cheaper version (from 299.99 euros) comes with a powerful battery, good performance and ditto cameras. In addition, this device is suitable for the faster 5G network.
5G support and large battery
The Moto G 5G has the Snapdragon 750G chipset that enables 5G for mid-range phones. There is a model with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage for 299.99 euros and a model with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The phone has a large 5,000 mAh battery with support for 20-watt fast charging.
Large screen and four cameras
The phone has a large 6.7 inch LCD screen with a Full HD + resolution of 2400 by 1080 pixels.
There are three cameras on the back, one less than the Moto G 5G Plus. The main camera is a 48 MP copy (f / 1.7), followed by an 8 MP wide-angle camera (f / 2.2), a 2 MP macro camera (f / 2.4) for close-up photos. The depth camera of the Plus version has been omitted. There is a 16 MP selfie camera on the front.
The Moto G 5G runs on Android 10 just like the G9 Power and also has a Google Assistant button on the side of the case. The fingerprint scanner is in the power button.
