The OnePlus Shelf is back in the OnePlus Launcher

OnePlus brings its Shelf back in the latest beta update of its OnePlus Launcher for the OnePlus 8 series. By swiping down, you can now view the Shelf.

OnePlus Shelf

For years, the Shelf was OnePlus’ proprietary alternative to the Google Discover feed of relevant news articles. In the Shelf you get relevant information, a pedometer and shortcuts to your favorite apps. You could always find the menu by swiping right on the home screen, but with the OnePlus 8 series, the brand announced that that place is now reserved for Google Discover.

OnePlus has now announced on its Forums that the Shelf will return via a new gesture in Launcher. You swipe down to see the Shelf, so you can use both Discover and the special OnePlus feature. For the time being, the gesture can only be seen in the 4.5.4 beta version of the OnePlus Launcher, and you must also activate the feature yourself from the home screen settings.OnePlus Shelf

The OnePlus Shelf has no new functions, so the feature still works exactly as you are used to. Although OnePlus recently deleted the function, it is striking that other manufacturers do adopt the idea of the Shelf’s. OPPO has a similar feature in ColorOS 7 and Huawei launched the ‘ Assistant ‘ in its EMUI shell with Huawei Mobile Services.

You can register here as a beta tester for OnePlus Launcher, but keep in mind that the function only works if you use the OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro. It is not yet known when the feature will be available for the stable version of the launcher. What do you think of the Shelf? Is the feature stronger than the Google Discover feed? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
