OPPO has announced its very first smartwatch and the Reno 4 series worldwide. There are only striking differences with the Chinese variants previously proposed.
OPPO Reno 4 (Pro)
OPPO has announced its new mid-range phones: the Reno 4 and the Reno 4 Pro. The devices were first introduced in China, but now finally the worldwide launch followed thanks to an announcement from OPPO Thailand. We discuss the main specifications and differences with the Chinese variant.
The Reno 4 Pro has a curved AMOLED screen with a 6.5-inch format and a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. Its screen also has a 90 Hz refresh rate and there is a small notch for the selfie camera. The regular Reno 4 has a flat 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a larger notch for two selfie cameras. Both devices have a fingerprint scanner under the screen.
Performance, battery and camera
The engine of both phones is the Snapdragon 720G chipset that comes without 5G support. Both devices also have 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. A striking difference with the Chinese versions of these devices is that the regular Reno 4 does not get a powerful 65-watt fast charger, but a 30-watt one.
The powerful Super VOOC 4.0 charger is available for the Pro version. The Reno 4 has a 4015 mAh battery while the Reno 4 Pro comes with a 4000 mAh battery, and both devices have a 3.5 mm audio jack. They each run on Android 10 and the ColorOS 7.2 shell.
The Reno 4 and the Pro version have the same camera setup on the back for the variant that is launched outside China. Compared to the Chinese device, the ordinary Reno 4 exchanged laser autofocus for a 2 MP depth camera.
The phones now have a 48 MP main camera, an 8 MP depth camera, a 2 MP macro camera and a 2 MP depth camera. On the front, there are differences between the Reno 4 and Pro variant. The regular Reno 4 has a 2 MP depth camera in addition to the 32 MP main camera, and the Pro version only has to do with that main camera.
As previously expected, OPPO has also announced the ‘global’ version of its OPPO Watch. The Chinese manufacturer released that smartwatch in March in its home country. OPPO’s watch comes in a 46mm variant and a 41mm model. That larger watch has a 1.9-inch AMOLED screen, and the company gave the smaller variant a 1.6-inch screen.
If we look at the performance, we see that OPPO has still put the newer Snapdragon Wear 3100 in the smartwatch, along with a second processor that makes the watch more energy efficient.
This should ensure that you can use the Watch for 35 hours. Finally, there is the software, because OPPO uses Googles Wear OS as an operating system, unlike the Chinese watch. The OPPO Watch is also water-resistant, it has an accurate heart rate measurement, built-in GPS, NFC and different modes to track your activities.
Nothing is known yet about a possible arrival of the Reno 4 series and the OPPO Watch to the Netherlands, but we will update this article as soon as more becomes known. OPPO’s phones are available in Starry Night and Silky White colors.
The Watch can be found in the colors Silver Mist, Black and Pink Gold. The OPPO Reno 4 will be for sale converted from 325 euros, while the OPPO Watch will cost at least 168 euros converted.
