Samsung Galaxy S20 FE: midrange phone with 120 Hz screen

Samsung first introduced a ‘midrange’ model, the S10 Lite, in the Galaxy S10 series. For the Galaxy S20 series, another midrange model is planned, known as the Galaxy S20 FE. All specifications and images of this phone have been leaked this time.

In this case, FE stands for ‘Fan Edition’, a name that Samsung previously introduced with the Note 7, shortly after the device had to be discontinued due to battery problems. What is striking is that this time the name would also be used for the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite. Through the reliable rumor maker Roland Quandt (via WinFuture), all details of the device have come out.Samsung_Galaxy_S20_FE

Based on the specifications that Quandt was able to obtain, it can be concluded that this is not a ‘budget model’ with midrange components. Samsung would use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset on the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, the choice of components also applies to the European market. That only applies to the 5G model of the Fan Edition, there would also be a 4G model on the way, which still uses Samsung’s Exynos 990 chipset.

120 Hz screens

However, where the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has to excel, is the 6.5-inch AMOLED panel. Although the Full HD + resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) is not a striking appearance, it is slightly different for the 120 Hz refresh rate of the Fan Edition. It is unknown if Samsung uses the Note 20 series LTPO panels, which allow for a variable refresh rate.

Galaxy Note 20 cameras?

One thing that’s for sure, WinFuture states, is that the Galaxy S20 FE uses three cameras that have 12MP, 12MP, and 8MP resolution respectively. The first 12MP sensor is the main camera, with an f / 1.8 aperture. The second 12 MP sensor offers a wide-angle lens, with an angle of view of 123 degrees. Finally, there is the 8 MP telephoto sensor, which offers the possibility to optically zoom in up to three times.Galaxy Note 20 cameras

As on the Samsung Galaxy S20 +, the South Korean manufacturer has equipped its Galaxy S20 FE with a 4,500 mAh battery. Charging the battery is done with the included 15-watt charger. It is also possible to charge the S20 FE wirelessly, although the maximum charging speed is unknown at the time of writing. Other details of the phone include IP68 certification, stereo speakers, and a metal frame with a glass front and back.

Launch in Europe

Once the phone becomes available in Europe, there are several colors to choose from, including white, blue, orange, lavender, green, and red. There will be only one storage model, offering 128 GB storage memory and 6 GB RAM. At launch, the Galaxy S20 FE runs on One UI 2.x based on Android 10. This phone, like the Samsung Galaxy S20 Lite, will probably receive three Android upgrades.
