Samsung’s fall collection of phones and smartwatches is starting to take shape, according to recent rumors about the South Korean manufacturer. In the smartwatch segment, the company wants to launch the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch Active 4. This time more details have been leaked about the format and the software that will run on the watches.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch Active 4
Samsung released its Galaxy Watch 3 in 2020, more than two years after the launch of the very first Galaxy Watch. With the renewed Galaxy Watch, the manufacturer wants to appeal to casual users who feel less attracted by the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2. However, there does not seem to be a long life for the Galaxy Watch 3 – the smartwatch will be replaced by the Galaxy Watch 3 this year, according to rumors. Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4.
Wear OS as the operating system
A launch of the two smartwatch models would be scheduled for August, with the Galaxy Watch watches unveiled along with the new Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy S21 FE, Korean MT suggests in a report. . MT’s report also reinforces earlier rumors about the arrival of Wear OS to Samsung’s wearables. Samsung would take this step because Tizen has ‘reached its limit for expanding the available content, such as the app ecosystem’.
Google and Samsung will benefit from the arrival of Galaxy Watch watches to Wear OS. For Google it would mean, among other things, that the app ecosystem will be expanded faster. There will also be more attention for Wear OS, so that other manufacturers may start using Wear OS for their own smartwatches. Finally, it is possible that the manufacturer will help Google maintain and improve Wear OS so that it can become a more stable platform.
Three different sizes
Previous rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 confirmed that the watch would be available in two sizes: 41mm and 45mm. According to MT’s report, those dimensions are incorrect and the Galaxy Watch 4 only appears in 42mm and 46mm variants. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Active 4 also comes in two variants, with a 40mm and a 42mm model. This makes the Galaxy Watch 4 slightly larger than its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 3, while the largest model in the Galaxy Watch Active 4 series – the 42mm variant – is slightly smaller than the 44mm variant from the Galaxy Watch Active 2. series.
In addition to the rumors about the dimensions and the arrival of Wear OS, it has become known that Samsung will not provide the Galaxy Watch 4 series with blood sugar measurements. The reason behind canceling the feature during the development phase is not known. Perhaps Samsung was not yet satisfied with how the measurement works on its watches. At the same time, it could be related to strict rules in place for equipment that performs such measurements.
Wear OS on Google I / O 2021
The reason for Samsung to return to Wear OS seven years after it left Android Wear for Tizen is unknown. Google may be announcing major changes to Wear OS at its upcoming developer I / O conference – changes that are critical for Samsung to make the move to the OS.
