Years ago, phones like the Samsung Galaxy Note were still described as ‘phablets’. Over time, devices have become bigger and bigger – so big that we even prefer to see them folded. The next step for Samsung seems to be folding the Tab series: the South Korean company is working on foldable tablets, according to rumors.
Samsung’s foldable tablet
Phones aren’t the only devices that have gotten bigger and bigger over the years. Last year, Samsung released its largest Android tablet ever – the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus. Given the growth in image formats, it is becoming increasingly important to keep the devices easily transportable. For phones, Samsung launched the first solution two years ago: at the same time as Huawei, Samsung launched its first foldable phone. A successor was released in 2020 – the foldable technology is starting to feel more and more mature.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Tab
Possibly even mature enough to tackle larger devices, according to a rumor about the Galaxy Z Fold Tab from GizmoChina. According to the website, the Z Fold Tab will be the South Korean concern’s first foldable tablet. Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold series, Samsung uses two folding mechanisms for its foldable tablets. The screen will therefore fold in two places and thus may remain more compact compared to a tablet that is folded once.
Samsung would give the tablet S Pen support in addition to the special ‘tri-fold design. It is a hybrid S Pen that reportedly works via Bluetooth. Similar to the S Pen that would have been developed for the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the operation is different from the S Pen that comes with Note phones or Galaxy Tab tablets. It is not known how the effect will differ.
Furthermore, it became known that the Galaxy Z Fold Tab uses a renewed version of Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG), which should be thicker.
Z Fold Tab in development
Rumors point to a launch in the first quarter of 2022. Samsung is planning to show a teaser of the upcoming foldable tablet during the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3. Both foldable phones are expected to launch in early August. For the time being, it remains important to take the leaked details with the necessary grains of salt, according to GizmoChina. Samsung is actively developing the Galaxy Z Fold Tab, which means that there is a lot of room to move in the way that Samsung is walking for the definitive foldable tablet (s).
