Google’s Wear OS platform has not been an immense success until now. Many manufacturers have abandoned the sinking ship, while a handful of parties continue to use the operating system. One of the reasons for the moderate success is the limited battery life of the platform. Manufacturers are required to use Qualcomm’s Wear chipsets; Until now, manufacturers had the choice of Wear 2100 and Wear 3100 chipsets.
These chipsets contain computing cores dating back to 2013, which ensures that the processor consumes a lot of energy without offering high-performance levels. Fortunately, Qualcomm launched its successors this year, in the form of the Snapdragon Wear 4100 and Wear 4100 Plus. The first smartwatch to appear with such a Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset has yet to be launched. A product page of such an upcoming smartwatch, the TicWatch 3 Pro, has been leaked via Amazon.
TicWatch 3 Pro Specifications
Droid-Life managed to discover the product page, which can still be visited at the time of writing. On the product page, we see a limited number of details of the smartwatch. One of the details is the size of the TicWatch 3 Pro: 45.1 x 45.1 x 12.6mm. The product page also shows that this smartwatch is equipped with the Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset, although it is still unknown whether it is the ‘standard’ or ‘Plus’ edition.
Considerable price tag TicWatch
Mobvoi’s TicWatch Pro series has always been significant to the price, with a suggested retail price of 260 euros for the TicWatch Pro 2020. According to the product page, Droid-Life had spotted earlier, the watch will retail for 299 GBP, about 340 euros. Currently, the product page has been adjusted and we see a suggested retail price of 399 British Pounds, approximately 450 euros. It is unknown whether one of the prices is correct, or whether it is simply placeholders for the final price.
If the suggested retail price of 450 euros is correct, Mobvoi will implement a substantial price increase. Although there are more expensive Wear OS smartwatches, they are usually released by manufacturers of expensive watches and other accessories. Samsung showed with the Watch 3 series that it is not afraid to increase the prices of its own smartwatches, with a suggested retail price of 429 euros (41mm). However, Samsung’s Tizen platform has convinced in recent years, while Wear OS still lacks sophistication.
TicWatch 3 Pro Release date
Mobvoi is said to have planned the launch for the TicWatch 3 Pro for October 1, 2020. Again, it is unknown whether these details reflect reality, or whether we should take into account a different launch date. After all, the modified product page that is online contains other information. Due to the holiday season, a launch on November 30 seems very unlikely.
